![]() Do I just have to jump into full Live Standard? I'd appreciate any insight into this tech mess I'm treading into. I can apparently create a virtual aggregate device with my Duet, but I believe that has to do with Soundflower and the missing 'external instrument' plug I have with Live Lite.Īnyone here been down this road yet? I know Ian Williams from Battles is running this setup, among others. to give Mainstage a try, even if it requires the Soundflower workaround. Which would be the looper and or Möbius plugin. For those raised on computers and beat machines, Id think Ableton Live would. ($400) I heard using Ableton's 'rewire' can route this signal, but Live becomes a slave and you lose your ability to use plugins in Live. The Live Lite version doesn't have this, only the standard version does. If you want to route MainStage audio to Live, you’ll need to use something like SoundFlower which routes audio between applications. But unfortunately this requires an 'external instrument' plugin in Live to route in Soundflower's output. However, MainStage can only be used as a ReWire Master which means Ableton Live will have to be the slave. The virtual MIDI ports in OS X provide MIDI communication, and Cycling 74s Soundflower utility provides the way to route audio between Mainstage and Live. I know there's a Soundflower workaround that routes MS into Live. The only thing missing is getting the sounds I'm writing and recording with from Logic into Ableton to loop and launch them live. It's a really intuitive DAW and obviously excels in the Live context. It's been a lot of fun learning to loop and launch sequences with the APC. Every week we send out a free MainStage patch in our Insiders. Check out the String Wall Arp, this weeks free MainStage & Ableton patch This is an arp that creates a thick and moving string texture - really popular right now in many Hillsong and Elevation new releases. I want to live loop my keyboard riffs and trade off with guitar loops, but the loopback plugin in Mainstage is horrible to work with and get to sync properly.Īfter becoming frustrated with Mainstage, I ended up getting an APC Mini that came with a copy Ableton Live Lite. Check out String Wall Arp, this weeks free patch for MainStage AND Ableton. So I'm a Logic X user and I've been using Mainstage 3 for the past year or so to access my Logic sounds and also launch drum beats and pre-recorded sequences with the playback plugin while playing live. ![]()
